CASA MILA
Casa Mila (La Pedrera), an apartment building in Barcelona designed by Antonio Gaudi, was completed in 1912. The limestone facade is constantly curving inside and out and is supported by a modern concrete frame. Wide light filled courtyards were also an innovation at the time.
Gaudi used wrought iron in a very sophisticated way for balcony railings and gates. An apartment with period furnishings is part of tour as well as an architectural exhibit in the attic below the roof of catenary arches.
The rooftop has sculptural chimneys and ventilation towers but watch your step. Book a tour in advance and enjoy something to eat in the Cafe de la Pedrera on the ground floor after your visit.
