CENTRO NIEMEYER
Oscar Niemeyer designed the Centro Niemeyer in Aviles Spain as an international cultural center,. Opening in 2011, it is a civic redevelopment along the industrial waterfront intended to promote cultural activities and tourism.
The center has 5 major elements constructed from concrete and glass: an open square, the dome, an auditorium, the tower and a multipurpose building. A curvilinear canopy connects the dome and the auditorium. The bold white forms and primary color accents sit on a barren concrete plaza above an underground parking structure.
While you’re there, stop at the cafe in the center’s multipurpose building. See this project when you are in Aviles.
