DALLAS ARBORETUM
The Dallas Arboretum visitors center was designed by Lake|Flato and Oglesby Greene and opened in 2002.
Just past the entrance pavilion is a plaza courtyard that opens to the theater, banquet hall, classrooms and shop. The walls and large overhangs protect the occupants from the sun while clerestory windows admit light deep into the space. Massive limestone walls contrast with wood and steel framing, and copper detailing. The architecture is deeply rooted in the place and responds to the local environment.
