GOVERNORS ISLAND

Governors Island sits just 800 yards south of Manhattan in New York City. It was originally used as a military fortification to protect the harbor from invasion and then a Coast Guard base.

In 2005 it was opened for public use, open during the summer as a public park with access by ferry. You can see the historic structures, art exhibits and enjoy the green space.

Pentagram has designed the environmental graphics. Climb “The Hills” created with fill that were designed by West 8 and Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architects.

Get lunch from one of the food trucks or containers or from Taco Vista with a view of Manhattan. You can stay overnight in a tent at the Collective Retreat and enjoy the quiet and spectacular view.
