NATIONAL MUSEUM OF ROMAN ART
Rafael Moneo designed the National Museum of Roman Art in Merida, Spain.
Completed in 1986, the design places a new archaeology museum above Roman ruins. The brick arcades and steel railings merge the contemporary design with the well preserved Roman city below and the artifacts on display. Merida has preserved Roman buildings nearby and the basement reveals the old city below. The museum connects the history of the Roman city with today.
Visit the Via de La Tapa across the street for lunch or a coffee. Enjoy your visit to Merida.
