NEWPORT BEACH CIVIC CENTER
The Newport Beach Civic Center, designed by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, was completed in 2013. It is organized around the principals of transparency, clarity and sustainability.
The project includes a city hall, library addition and parking garage with outdoor public spaces on 17 acres taking advantage of the climate. Native drought tolerant plants, picnic areas, a dog park and a rehabilitated wetland were designed by the landscape architect Peter Walker.
A long narrow building gives the staff daylight and views along with underfloor air conditioning, operable windows and automated clerestory windows. A light and carefully detailed steel frame and undulating wood ceilings evokes the maritime character and warm up the spaces.
Nearby you’ll find Zinc for a coffee or a healthy meal. Stop by to see this civic architecture when you are in Newport Beach.
