NEW YORK CITY BEACH MODULES
Hurricane Sandy destroyed many buildings in 2012. When the city of New York rebuilt their beach structures, they needed them replaced in 5 months and built to withstand future storms.
Garrison Architects designed 37 of these in 15 locations including Coney Island and Rockaway Beach. They were prefabricated in a factory on a common framework that is mounted on concrete legs and accessed by aluminum stairs and ramps so they could be located above the 500 year flood level. These are a model for similar structures in vulnerable locations.
If you are in Coney Island visit the Oceanview Cafe in Brighton Beach for authentic Russian cuisine or if you visit these in Rockaway Beach, try Bernadette’s for breakfast or lunch. Relax and enjoy your visit to the beach.
