STOREFRONT FOR ART AND ARCHITECTURE
Located in Manhattan, the Storefront for Art and Architecture, was founded in 1982 to present a program of exhibits on diverse notions of place and public life.
The unique triangular space is almost 100 feet long and tapers from 20 feet to 3 feet. In 1993, the artist Vito Acconci and architect Steven Holl designed the exterior facade with 12 moveable panels that pivot to open the gallery to the street. The facade is made of concrete with recycled fibers and is often painted for specific exhibits.
